Dr Leela Scholars

The Dr Leela Scholars Programme is an education-led initiative of Iron Lady Foundation, created to support girls whose potential is strong but whose access to opportunity is limited.

What the Programme Supports

The Dr Leela Scholars Programme supports girls at critical stages in their education journey. Depending on individual needs, this may include:

  • Continued access to schooling or further education
  • Mentorship and encouragement
  • Exposure to opportunities that broaden ambition and confidence

Support is delivered in partnership with trusted local educators and community leaders to ensure it is relevant, respectful and sustainable.

Our Approach

The Dr Leela Scholars Programme is grounded in a belief-led model of impact.

Rather than focusing solely on access, we prioritise the conditions that allow girls to thrive:

  • Belief as a foundation for confidence
  • Encouragement as a catalyst for agency
  • Dignity as a non-negotiable
  • Long-term thinking over short-term intervention

This approach recognises that education is not just about attendance, but about how a girl experiences herself, her potential and her future.

Who the Programme Is For

The Dr Leela Scholars Programme supports girls who:

  • Show commitment, curiosity and willingness to learn
  • Face structural, social or economic barriers to education
  • Benefit from sustained encouragement and guidance
  • Meet Eligible Education Result Criteria

Selection is carried out in close collaboration with local partners who understand each girl’s context, challenges and strengths.

The Dr Leela Scholars Programme goes beyond financial support. It is rooted in belief, responsibility and a long-term commitment to each girl’s future.

Honouring Dr Leela Mehta

Dr Leela Mehta dedicated her life to women’s health, care, and advocacy. She believed deeply in the power of education, encouragement, and dignity to change outcomes for women and girls.

The Dr Leela Scholars Programme honours her legacy by investing in futures shaped by belief, opportunity, and long-term care.

Impact Beyond the Individual

When a girl is supported to continue her education, the impact extends beyond her alone.

Families, siblings, and communities benefit from increased confidence, knowledge, and leadership. The Dr Leela Scholars Programme is designed with this wider, generational impact in mind.
